Objectives
The student
- is able to evaluate, support and guide the health, growth and development of a child under school age
- is able to support the family's healthy and safe lifestyle by utilising the family's own resources
- is able to support parenthood and the parental relationship
- is able to identify and broach the specific needs of children and families with children in a timely manner
- identifies delays and deviations in the growth and development of the child, is able to make consultations and, if necessary, send the child and family for further examinations and care
is able to implement and apply a child’s vaccination program
- is able to vaccinate a child and guide the parents
Content
- family-centred health care for a child and a family with children
- follow-up methods and assessments of a child’s health
- family health guidance (including media, nutrition, exercise, weight management, oral health, sexual health, accidents)
- early interaction and working methods to support parenthood
- zones of concern (e.g., mental health, weight management, substance abuse, sexual and reproductive health, violence) and mentalisation as a working method
- vaccination of children
Prerequisites
Completed clinical studies in both nursing and anatomy and physiology (135 credits).
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
The student
- has the right knowledge, but the detail is unconnected, at the level of recognition, and the explanations are inadequate
- has a restricted understanding of the health of the child and the family with a limited perspective
- perceives inadequately the specific needs of families with children
- understands the family perspective at a theoretical level
- knows the vaccination program for children
- is able to vaccinate a child and knows the importance of parental guidance
- knows ethical issues associated with vaccination
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
The student
- is able to use evidence-based knowledge and is able to explain issues from many different perspectives
- looks at client and family aspects from a diverse range of perspectives
- is able to identify the most important special needs of a family with children
- knows the vaccination program for children
- is able to vaccinate a child and guide parents
- is able reflect on ethical issues related to vaccination
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student
- is able to holistically observe the situation of the child and the family with a child on the basis of evidenced knowledge and demonstrates the capacity to support the child individually and the family extensively
- is able to manage the working methods
- is able to identify specific needs and to demonstrate the capacity for follow-up and continuity of care
- is able to utilise the multi-professional approach for families with children
- masters the child's vaccination program and is able to apply it
- is able to vaccinate the child and guide the parents individually
- is able to reflect on the ethical issues related to vaccination and his/her own activities as a nurse giving vaccinations
