Unlock Your Creative Potential with Media and Arts!
Media and Arts is a degree programme for future experts in the creative sector. The curriculum guides you in generating fresh ideas and developing them in a high-quality, artistic, technical, ethical and economically successful manner.
Gain up-to-date competencies in this growing, international, and ever-changing creative sector. Learn how to utilize new media tools and adapt various working methods to projects of different types. With options for practical training and study exchanges abroad, our programme sets the stage for an extraordinary international career. We are located on the Mediapolis Campus, alongside the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE).
In your application, you'll choose a specialisation: Interactive Media, Music and Audio Industry, or Fine Art Lab. Beyond your main focus, you can customize your personal study plan from various modules like animation and VFX, visual design, game design, sound design, event production and business, moving image art, or fine art creative economy.
Upon graduating, you'll possess the skills required in the global creative industry. This sector offers a large amount of job opportunities, including roles as experts, developers, and entrepreneurs in fields such as game production, music and live event production, new media production, service design, and fine art.
Content
The first year provides a broad perspective on the basic skills needed in the media field and chosen specialisation. In autumn, you will study introductory courses and one basic Finnish language course. In the spring term, you will select the first professional studies' 30-credit module of your specialization's core competence area. After the first year, you will know how to use the essential tools and techniques. Projects included in the spring study modules will also involve working with customers in different sectors.
In the second year, you will choose a second 30-credit module from the whole Media and Arts professional studies offering for the autumn term and a third module for the spring. Projects included in the modules will also involve working with customers.
During the third year, you will deepen and broaden your professional insight into your specialisation either by participating in an international study exchange or by choosing a fourth 30-credit professional study module at TAMK during autumn. Choosing modules across specialisations and other programmes and including studies from Tampere University's cross-study selection is possible. For example, studying entrepreneurial competencies in Business Programmes or in HUBS is one option. In the spring term, you will start studying methods for your thesis project, and study the Work-life Skills module, as well as more language studies. Work-life Skills include career planning, entrepreneurship, preparations for practical training, newest technologies, and a customer project.
The fourth-year program for the autumn term consists of free-choice studies and practical training. In the spring term, you will undertake practical training and produce a Bachelor's thesis.

Specialisations:
The main specialisations are Interactive Media, Music and Audio Industry, and Fine Art Lab. These professional studies are subdivided into 30-credit professional study modules (animation and VFX, visual design, games academy, user experience design, web and app design and development, music production and business, live event production, sound design, new tools and methods in music and event production, photography, color and drawing, moving image art, and fine art creative economy). There are also joint courses and projects with, e.g., the Finnish AV Media programme and International Business.
You can build your own field of expertise by choosing or combining studies from the range of study options on offer. Combining studies from more than one study path is possible after the first year. The curriculum also contains large sections and projects, such as the one-year-long Game Academy, which are shared between different study paths and with other degree programs. Collaboration with Tampere University will open more options for course selection and projects.
