Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)

Live Event Technology basics and audiovisual planning course introduces both theoretical and practical skills that are essential when working in live events.

The student is able to:
Identify microphone techniques used in live event production.
Understand the essential devices and equipment of an analogue environment.
Follow the basic signal flow of a modern loudspeaker setup.
Understand the basics of electricity and rigging.
Understand the basics of light design for events.

Sisältö (Opintojakso)

Basics of live sound, such as microphone techniques, analogue mixing environments, and simple signal flow of modern loudspeaker setups, will be covered. Basics of electricity and rigging will be incorporated. Basics of light design for events are introduced as well.

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1-2) (Opintojakso)

The student shows a basic understanding of basic live event production. The student knows how to interact in discussions related to the field on a basic level and how to give and receive feedback. The student participates in class, assigned work and reporting.

The student shows a good understanding of live event production. The student demonstrates a good ability to interact in discussions related to the field and is good at giving and receiving feedback. The student works actively in class and assignments and delivers well-structured reports.

Student shows an exceptional understanding of live event production. The student demonstrates an excellent ability to interact in discussions related to the field and is excellent at giving and receiving feedback. The student works actively in class and shows a strong commitment to assignments and reports.

Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet

Students are required to attend 80 % of classes. In case of an absence the student should inform the teacher on beforehand by email and show a sick leave certificate (if absent due to sickness) or give a valid and well-justified reason for the absence. In addition to the accepted attendance all the given tasks need to be completed by 31.3.2025. Passing the course is essential for taking advanced level courses later.

Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat

Student who has former studies or work experience of live event tech and audio visual planning may compensate this course or part of it by credit transfer for studies or competences. In such cases, the student should make an application on CreTa before the course starts and address the application to handler Maaret Salminen (maaret.salminen@tuni.fi). Please notice that there are two senior lecturers of the same name in TAMK, so check you've chosen the right one.

Please notice that this topic is an introduction to the basics of event lighting design and the purpose is to give an idea of what steps are typically involved in the design process, what kinds of things are paid attention to and what kind of expertise is typically needed. The subject is discussed at a general level, which does not provide skills to work as a lighting technician or lighting designer in practice.
