Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)

The student
- is able, under supervision, to assess the need for care, plan, implement and evaluate nursing during pregnancy and the postpartum period, gynaecological disorders, and nursing of the family and children, utilising evidence-based knowledge;
- recognises and is able to bring up matters and challenges concerning sexuality and reproductive health with the client during her life span;
- knows how to support families in the growth of parenthood and a healthy life style;
- recognises the needs of family, support networks in multidiciplinary collaboration;
- knows the basics of medication in gynaecology, pregnancy and postpartum recovery;
- recognises the most common disorders in pregnancy, and postpartum recovery, as well as the most common gynaecological diseases.

- women as gynaecological patients throughout their life span
- the nurse in promoting sexual health and supporting relationships and parenthood
- medication in gynaecology, pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period
- pregnancy and the postpartum period including related disorders and guidance, care and follow up during pregnancy and the postpartum period
- healthy lifestyle and avoidance of substance abuse during pregnancy and breast-feeding
- nursing of postpartum mothers, newborns and families
- most common gynaecological diseases

30 ects of initial stage studies must be completed before entering the middle stage studies.

Aika ja paikka

Orientation lecture 5.8.2020, attendance compulsory. Orientation includes course info, division into small groups (also for skill stations), schedule and info regarding 7Q00DH44-3001 Orientation to Clinical Training, Maternity Care and Gynaecological Nursing also. The course includes a web based lecture in nutrition (will be announced during orientation).
UPDATED: All lectures are in ZOOM (make sure that you have an updated version on your computer). Small group work is done by writing an essay in pairs, detailed instructions in course Moodle.

- Maternity Care and Gynaecological Nursing Exam in electronic exam rooms (Tenttiterraario). NOTICE! Two medical calculations done during orientation lecture 5.8. Bring a calculator, if you want to use one!
Do not write the exam until you have participated in the skills station 7Q00DH44-3001 Orientation to Clinical Training, Maternity Care and Gynaecological Nursing.

UPDATED: Medical calculations (2) are included in the exam in Tenttiterraario.

Part 1: Maternity Care and Gynaecological Nursing theory
- Numeric evaluation (0-5) exam, passed assignments, 75% attendance during lectures.
Part 2: Maternity Care and Gynaecological Nursing medical calculations (2)
- pass/fail
Part 3. Small Group Work (PBL)
- pass/fail In order to pass, a 100% attendance is required and assignments completed according to the given requirements. These includes self and peer evaluation and active participation in opening and closing sessions.
UPDATE: All lectures in ZOOM. Small group work is completed by writing an essay (including self and peer-evaluation).

- Maternity Care and Gynaecological Nursing 4 ECT, 108 hours includes participation in lectures, small group work and independent studies. The course includes a web based lecture in nutrition (will be announced during orientation).
- The student is required to attend in 75% of the lectures. If the student is not present in 75% of the lectures, the course is failed and one can not complete the exam. The web based nutrition module is compulsory to complete. The exam will include questions about the nutrition module.
- A 100% attendance is compulsory in small group work (PBL).
- The Orientation to Clinical Training, Maternity Care and Gynaecological Nursing (1 ECT) content is included in this course's exam material.
UPDATED: Same participation requirements in ZOOM lectures! Small group work is completed by writing an essay in pairs, no attendance.

- The student lacks in Maternity Care and Gynaecological Nursing theoretical knowledge and has misunderstandings.
- The student is not able to complete the medical calculations without mistakes, lacks understanding in basics of medication care related to Maternity care and Gynecological Nursing.
- The student doesn't take responsibility of his/her own learning.
- The student is not able to receive feedback.
- The student is not able to act professionally in the small group work regarding Maternity care and Gynecological Nursing.

The student:
- Understands evidence based Maternity Care and Gynaecological Nursing care and the involved process.
- Recognizes the most common gynecological disorders and the physiological pregnancy changes and most common problems in antenatal and postnatal processes.
- Recognizes the basics of observation and monitoring the newborn infant and knows the methods to support families without ability to reason the choices.
- Recognizes the growth to parenthood and challenges in sexual- and reproductive health in the woman's and family's life course.
- Is able to complete medical calculations without fault. Knows the basics of medication care related to Maternity care and Gynecological Nursing.
- Is aware of the purpose of guidance in Maternity care and Gynecological Nursing.
- Is aware of ethics in Maternity care and Gynecological Nursing.
- Recognizes his/her own communication skills in the learning environment of Maternity care and Gynecological Nursing.
- Takes responsibility of his/her own learning.
