Objectives (course unit)

The student
- advances his/her professional competence in nursing care of long-term and neurologically ill children and their family
- is able to act safely in the procedures and related guidance for long-term and neurologically ill children
- is able to perform pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy for long-term and neurologically ill children
- is able to perform resuscitation of infants, toddlers, school age children and adolescents
- is able to interact with a long-term or neurologically ill child and his/her family
- is able to evaluate the child's condition, as well as to plan and implement care in collaboration with the family and multi-professional workgroup using evidence-based knowledge
- is able to work collegially and develop as a professional representative by evaluating his/her own activities and giving feedback to the team members
- is able to choose economically sustainable methods in his/her actions

Content (course unit)

- the most common methods of helping interventions for a child a with long-term illness
- children's pharmaceutical and liquid therapy
- child care resuscitation
- assessment of a child’s condition, as well as planning and implementation of care in collaboration with the family and multiprofessional working group
- child and family guidance and professional interaction

Prerequisites (course unit)

At the beginning of the elective vocational studies, the student must have completed 135 credits. These should include the theoretical studies and orientation to practical training of the area which the student has chosen for the elective studies, as well as courses in anatomy and physiology. The required area is paediatric nursing.

Pass:

The student
- is able to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care of long-term and neurologically ill child
- is able to act in collaboration with a child and his/her family
- works professionally and ethically

Fail
The student puts patient safety at risk
