Objectives (course unit)

The student
- knows the basics of ethics in his/her professional area and is able to apply theoretical knowledge in the nursing care of a child in need of acute care, and his/her family
- is able to assess the need for a child’s care, and is able to plan and implement nursing care
- knows the different phases of the care processes for children of different ages and their families as part of a multidisciplinary team
- knows the basics of medical treatment for a child who is suddenly ill and needs intensive care
- knows the theoretical and functional basics of pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy for a child who is suddenly ill and needs intensive care
- knows the importance of evidence-based practice in nursing care for children and families and in developing the work community
- is responsible for the theoretical development of his / her own competence in nursing care for a suddenly ill child who needs intensive care and his/her family

Content (course unit)

- nursing care, resuscitation of a child with sudden illness and requiring intensive care
- nursing care for a sick newborn
- nursing care for children and adolescents with surgical and medical illnesses
- assessing the need for child care using the ABCDEF -method, then planning and implementing the care
- the most common neonatal, acute and surgical illnesses of babies and children
- child protection in nursing care
- supporting the child and the family in sudden illness
- guiding and preparing the child and the family using play
- specific issues for a child's pain management
- child and adolescent medicine and fluid therapy
- caring for a dying child and his/her family

Prerequisites (course unit)

At the beginning of the elective vocational studies, the student must have completed 135 credits. These should include theoretical studies and orientation to practical training of the area which the student has chosen for the elective studies, as well as courses in anatomy and physiology. The required area is Paediatric Nursing.It is recommended that the student has completed at least one practical training in the area of paediatric nursing.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student

- has only a poor understanding of the basics of ethical behavior related to his/her professional field but knows satisfactorily how to apply theoretical knowledge in nursing care for a suddenly ill / intensive care child and his/her family
- has an incomplete knowledge of the different phases of the care processes for children of different ages and their families as part of a multidisciplinary team
- knows in part the basics of medical treatment for a child or adolescent who is suddenly ill and needs intensive care
- has a limited knowledge of the theoretical and functional basics of drug and fluid therapy for a child or adolescent who is suddenly ill and in need of intensive care; performs flawlessly in medication calculation and fluid therapy tasks
- understands on a basic level the importance of evidence-based practice in nursing and in the development of working life for children and families
- assumes responsibility for the theoretical development of his/her own expertise in nursing care for a child who is suddenly ill and needs intensive care, and his/her family

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

- knows the basics of professional ethical
actions and is able to apply theoretical knowledge in nursing care for a child who is suddenly ill and in need of acute care, and his/her family
- knows comprehensively the different phases of the care processes for children of different ages and their families as part of a multidisciplinary team
- knows the basics of medical care for a suddenly ill / intensive care child or adolescent
- knows the theoretical and functional basics of drug and fluid therapy for a child or adolescent who is suddenly ill and needs intensive care, and performs correctly on medication calculation and fluid- therapy tasks
- understands the importance of evidence-based practice in nursing care for children and families and in developing the work community
- systematically takes responsibility for the theoretical development of his/her own competence in the nursing care of a child who is suddenly ill and needs intensive care, and his/her family

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student
- has a thorough knowledge of basic professional ethics and is able to apply this versatile theoretical knowledge in the nursing care of a child in need of acute care and his/her family
- knows comprehensively and diversely the different phases of the nursing care processes for children of different ages and their families as part of a multidisciplinary team
- knows the basics of medical treatment for a child or adolescent who is suddenly ill and needs intensive care
- knows well the theoretical and functional basics of medical and fluid therapy for a child or adolescent who is suddenly ill and needs intensive care
- understands comprehensively the importance of evidence-based practice in nursing and working life for children and families;
- takes systematic and long term responsibility for the theoretical development of his/her own skills in nursing children who are suddenly ill and need intensive care, and their family

Osa 1 Koe 1
- 20shlas2 Lääkehoidon koe 18.8. klo 9.00-10.00 ja uusinnat vko 35/2023 eteenpäin Examissa
- 21shlas1 Terveen lapsen kasvun ja kehityksen koe Examissa. Suorita 10.12.2023 mennessä hyväksytysti.

Osa 2 Koe 2
-Äkillisesti sairaan vastasyntyneen/keskosen hoitotyön tentti (Stiina) 19.9.2023 klo 9.45-11.45; uusinta 1 examissa vko 41 ja uusinta 2 vko 42-44.

Osa 3 Koe 3
-Akuutti hoitotyön tentti (Katariina) Examissa 13.9.-1.10.2023. Uusinta 1 Examissa viikoilla 43-45, Uusinta 2 Examissa viikoilla 46-48.

Osa 4 Lääkelaskut koe 13.9. klo 12.30-13.00 luokassa, Koe on mahdollista suorittaa myös yhdessä teoriakokeen kanssa Examissa 13.9.-1.10.2023. Uuusinnat: mahdollisuus suorittaa Examissa erillisenä kokeena 10.12.2023 asti.

Osa 5 Nesteohjelma koe 19.9.2023 klo 9.00-9.30, uusinta 1, uusinta 2 Examissa vkot 40-49

Osa 6 Lääketiede ja muut erityistieteet
