Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)

After successful completion of the course students:

- are able to communicate professionally using the most essential and concrete matters relating to energy and environmental engineer’s work: to speak and write the basics of recycling and laboratory work
- have clearly improved their oral and written competence
- can produce past tense sentences with correct object forms quite well

- basic professional Finnish for energy and environmental engineering students using material Hyvin menee 1, authentic materials as well as the materials created by the teacher
- much speech communication and writing exercises

Aika ja paikka

On Mondays at 12.30 - 14.00 in the class room B6-30 and on Wednesdays at 8.30 - 10.00 in the classroom H2-26, the first lesson the 2nd of August.

The dates of smaller tests will be announced later on: there won't be a large final exam.

Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet

Continuous assessment based on classwork, active participation (to pass the course the minimum attendance 80 % is required), accepted exercises, passed smaller tests and text tasks. The mark will be given on the strenght of activity (three class activity tests 33 %), an oral test e.g. a professional video (33 %) and results of written texts and comprehension tests (33 %).

Opiskelijan ajankäyttö ja kuormitus

Two weekly double lessons - as mentioned above - almost the whole autumn term. The break after studying Finnish in the spring causes need to revise before learned. Because this is a 4 ECT course, the total amount of student work has been estimated at least 4 x 27 hours = 108 hours. So quite much independent work is needed to approve the skills of basic Finnish. No huge final exam, but smaller tests and a lot of oral communication. Try your best to make Finnish language your hobby!

Sisällön jaksotus

In the beginning of the course revising the contents learnt last year. Then essential Finnish in energy and environmental engineer's work - also a couple of new important structures plus new vocabulary using the last chapters of SUN SUOMI.

Arviointikriteerit - hylätty (0) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)

A student has big difficulties to understand and produce the simplest basic phrases and expressions. Pronunciation causes misunderstanding.She/he has not attended regularly contact lessons having more than 20 % absences and she/he has not managed to complete all assignments.

Arviointikriteerit - tyydyttävä (1-2) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)

A student has completed all the assignments acceptably and attended at least 80 % of the contact lessons. A student can carry on a simple conversation on very familiar topics using memorized words and phrases. She/he can say when she/he doesn't understand and ask people to repeat or speak more slowly. She/he can understand words, short phrases and expressions used daily and the main idea of a conversation about a familiar topic when people speak slowly and clearly and use gestures, props or pictures - and the same kind of understanding about written texts.

Arviointikriteerit - hyvä (3-4) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)

In addition to the criteria 1 - 2: A student has an active attitude towards learning both basic and professional language showing that by completing tasks according to the schedule. She/he can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. She/he can introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people they know and things they have. A student can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

Arviointikriteerit - kiitettävä (5) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)

In addition to the criteria 1 - 4: A student has a positive and active attitude towards learning language. She or he shows that he or she understands the importance of good Finnish skills in working life by completing tasks extraordinary way and showing her/his will to learn more. She/he can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). She/he can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. A student can describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
