Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)
This business planning course provides both basic theory and hands-on guidance to business planning. Primary objective is for students to learn the basics of business planning (1st period) and be able to create such a plan (2nd period) for a virtual company.
After completing the course, the students will be able to:
• Understand the structure of a typical business plan
• Describe the purpose of each element of the business plan
• Apply basic business planning principles for the virtual company

• How to define value proposition for different customer segments?
• How to position your own business in the market and gain competitive advantage?
• How to frame an opportunity and draft a business model?

- Pre task & contact teaching
Small group assignments 30%
1. & 2. Draft your own business idea (two parts)
3. Draft business model for your business idea
4. Draft an outline for a business plan based on your business idea
Exam (40%)
- Must pass to pass the course
- Exam alone max grade is 1 with grade 3-5 from exam

The student fails to show her/his required level of expertise in basic business planning concepts and underlying principles. Charasteristic to failed course are the following:
- The student fails to pass the exam
- The student fails to participate contact teaching
- The student fails to do small group assignments

The students displays satisfactory level of expertise in basic business planning concepts and underlying principles. Charasteristic to grades 1-2 are the following:
- The student passes the exam with grade 1 or 2, at least
- The student participates contact teaching at least 2 times
- The student completes at least 2 small group assignment with grade pass
Arviointikriteerit - hyvä (3-4) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)
The students displays good level of expertise in basic business planning concepts and underlying principles. Charasteristic to grades 3-4 are the following:
- The student passes the exam with grade 3 or 4, at least
- The student participates contact teaching at least 3 times
- The student completes at least 3 small group assignment with grade pass

The students displays excellent level of expertise in basic business planning concepts and underlying principles. Charasteristic to grade 5 are the following:
- The student passes the exam with grade 5
