Objectives

The student:
- is able to provide the necessary patient care facilities and equipment and is able to check their operations and operational safety;
- is able to meet the patient when arriving;
- is able to position the patient for the operation;
- is able to manage the methods used in the patient's skin and mucous membrane disinfection;
- is able to work as a scrub nurse and a circulating nurse during the induction, during the procedure and at the end of procedure;
- is able to work as an assistant during the procedure;
- is able to take care of different types of samples during the procedure;
- is able to implement aseptic principles in the patient´s intraoperative care;
- is able to use different kinds of sterilisation and disinfection methods;
- is able to maintain the continuity of care verbally and by using manual and electronic documents;
- is able to work as part of the surgical team recognising his/her own responsibilities;
- is able to work in promoting the patient's health;
- is able to evaluate his/her own professional development during the clinical training and is able to identify his/her own development challenges.

Prerequisites

First year and middle phase studies completed, at least 135 credits , including the basic level studies in the field of the optional professional studies. Participation in Perioperative Nursing 4 credits
