Objectives

The Student
- knows the most significant evidence-based theory of midwifery regarding the high-risk pregnancies, pregnancy related disorders and their recognition, follow up and treatment
- is able to describe the methods of fetal and maternal screening and follow up during the high-risk pregnancies
- knows the principles of medication in the high-risk pregnancy and is able to solve medical calculations accurately
- is able to analyse, reflect and solve the ethical conflicts in midwifery care during high-risk pregnancy

Content

- high-risk pregnancies and their evidence based follow up and treatment
- support of parenthood in the high-risk pregnancies
- societal problems and substance abuse during pregnancy
- fetal screening methods in the high-risk pregnancies
- medication in the high-risk pregnancies
- the ethical conflicts in midwifery care during high-risk pregnancy

Prerequisites

The student cannot participate until The Supervised Clinical Training, Midwifery During Normal Pregnancy and Supervised Clinical Training, Midwifery during Childbirth I are completed.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student
- is able to describe the main points of the evidence-based midwifery regarding the high-risk pregnancies, pregnancy related disorders and their recognition, follow up and treatment
- is able to solve medical calculations accurately and knows the principles of medication in the high-risk pregnancy
- is able to describe the ethical conflict in midwifery care during high-risk pregnancy in a simply way

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student
- is able to identify the most significant high-risk pregnancies and disorders and describes extensively their evidence based follow up and treatment.
- is able to solve medical calculations accurately and knows the principles of medication in the high-risk pregnancy
- is able to describe and reflect the ethical conflicts in midwifery widely and based on the scientific evidence and ethical rules

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
-is able to implement extensively the evidence based theory of the high-risk pregnancies in midwifery
- is able to solve medical calculations accurately, knows the basis of medication in the high-risk pregnancy and knows the challenges related the medication
- is able to analyse and reflect the ethical conflicts in midwifery widely, extensively and in detail based on the scientific evidence and ethical rules
