Objectives

The objective of the course is to learn how to guide different customers in preparing for laboratory tests and to learn how to take, process and send various laboratory samples in a high-quality manner.

After completing the course, the student:
• knows the role of the laboratory as part of the health service system and patient care
• can guide the customer in preparing for the sample collection and identify the special needs of the customers if necessary
• can take, process and store samples for the most common laboratory tests
• can perform an ECG recording and evaluate its quality
• can pay attention to ergonomics and patient and work safety in their work
• knows the importance of multidisciplinary cooperation and can act as a member of the work community.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass: The student can take samples for the most common laboratory tests almost independently. The student can use the basic functions of the information systems needed for sample collection after receiving guidance. The student can take care of patient and work safety, asepsis and ergonomics. The student acts according to the principles of good customer service. The student can guide customers and other health care staff in the most common issues related to preanalytics, patient testing and point-of-care testing. The student shows willingness and ability to develop in their actions. The student can use the feedback they receive as a tool for professional growth and evaluate their own performance realistically. The student acts responsibly and committed.

Fail: The student does not meet the criteria for a passing grade.
