Objectives

The student knows:
• structures and operating principles of local area networks used in automation systems and the most common related protocols
• operating principles of active devices
• operating principles of ethernet-based networks used by industry
• the basics of information security and the possibilities of threats coming through the communication network.

The student can:
• configure and set network settings for the computer
• connect the computer to the network and test the operation of the network connection
• build a small local area network and protect it from threats coming through the telecommunications system.

Content

Structures of network topologies, operating principles and cabling of local area networks, principles and implementation solutions of ethernet-based networks, TCP/IP and OSI architectures, frame structures, operating principles and properties of active devices, structure and encryption of wireless networks, information security and safe use of information and communication systems.
