Objectives
The student knows and understands raw materials and processes of mechanical, chemichemical, chemical and recycled pulping. The student knows the different pulps and pulp properties. The student can evaluate the economical and environmental issues of pulping process.
Content
Raw materials of pulping, wood handling; mechanical pulping, chemichemical pulping, chemical pulping, DIP- and OCC-pulping; mechanical, chemichemical, chemical and recycled pulps; economical and environmental issues.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
Knowing: The student recognizes different raw materials, mechanical, chemichemical, chemical and recycled pulping methods and different pulps. The student names the unit processes and devices of pulping methods.
Acting: The student manages the assigned tasks under supervision/assisted.
Being: The student can give and receive feedback, can work in a group, takes responsibility for his/her own work.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
Knowing: The student explains the unit process of mechanical, chemichemical, chemical and recycled pulping methods. The student compares the different pulps. The student explains economical and environmental issues of pulping methods.
Acting: The student is able to practice as an assistant operator in the pulping plant. The student is able to calculate chemical, material and energy balance in the pulping plant.
Being: The student can give and receive feedback actively and constructively, can cooperate responsibly and is ready to develop his/her interaction skills.
Recognizes and follows the important courses of action in the field.
Takes responsibility and commits to the group activities in addition to his/her own work.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Knowing: The student is able to analyze the effects of raw materials and process parameters in the pulping process. The student is able to study and understand the quality parameters and end use properties of different pulps. The student can analyze production cost and environmental cost of pulping methods.
Acting: The student is able to practice as a team member when operating the pulping plant. The student can search the solution when operating or developing the pulping process. The student can give and report suitable information and diverse solution alternatives, when developing pulping process or quality parameters of pulps.
Being: The student can cooperate responsibly, flexibly and constructively, develops his/her own and the group's interaction, works responsibly and in a committed manner considering the community and field requirements and needs.
