Objectives (course unit)

The student is able to
- describe heat, fluid and their flow with physical quantities and their dependencies
- give justifiable solutions to related problems from scientific engineering basis

The student knows
- how to describe the state of a thermodynamic system
- how heat, fluids and their transfer are used in applications

Content (course unit)

Heat and heat flow, thermal expansion, thermal stress, thermodynamics, state variables and equations of state, cycle processes, heat pumps, humidity, fluid mechanics.

Prerequisites (course unit)

Mechanics

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

Student is able to use quantities, units and equations in thermophysics, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. Student is able to solve problems which resemble those given as examples during the course or student needs guidance in problem solving. Student is able to evaluate the correctness of his/her solution.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

In addition to previous, student is able to solve new problems, which doesn't resemble examples given during the course

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

In addition to previous, student is able to justify the solution exactly. Student is able to utilize the learned knowledge and skills to more challenging problems and analyze the correctness of the solution.
