Objectives (course unit)

After completing the course, the has ability to use NMAP to network protection and he/she is able to discover vulnerabilities in the network.

Content (course unit)

The course lessons are: - Getting Started with Nmap - Obtaining, Compiling, Installing, and Removing Nmap - Host Discovery (Ping Scanning) - Port Scanning Overview - Port Scanning Techniques and Algorithms - Optimizing Nmap Performance - Service and Application Version Detection - Remote OS Detection - Nmap Scripting Engine - Detecting and Subverting Firewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems - Defenses Against Nmap - Zenmap GUI Users' Guide - Nmap Output Formats - Understanding and Customizing Nmap Data Files.

Recommended: Basic Linux course

Course environment is Metropolia's Moodle and course can be done in own pace.

Online.

Assessment methods and criteria

Pass after all of 14 Lessons have been done and the Final Test has been passed. The final test contains ?50 multi-choice questions and the duration is 150 minutes. The minimum passing score for the test is 600/1000. If not achieved, the student needs retake the test. The retake limit is 3.
