Objectives (course unit)
Upon successful completion of the course or after demonstrating the required prior learning, the student is able to - apply central key concepts and terminology of the specialization area - demonstrate advanced professional spoken and written business communication in English - communicate fluently and professionally in the global context of the specialization area
Content (course unit)
- key concepts of the specialization area - terminology of the specialization area - professional spoken (meetings, negotiations, debates, presentations) and written business communication (meeting documents, project documents, international trade documentation, emails) as applicable - intercultural communication skills - topical, current industry-related material - various tools and applications for professional communication
Prerequisites (course unit)
Pre-requisites: Before taking this course, the student must have completed the Professional English Key Competence course or corresponding RPL process. The course is part of the Specialization Studies of the Bachelor’s Degree. The course is part of the Language Studies of the Hospitality Management Bachelor’s Degree. The CEFR level of the course is B2-C1.

Teaching methods
The implementation is of the virtual instructed mode: there is independent studying material including course readings and exercises to work on, Some exercises are compulsory. The Assignments are to be returned by their due dates (please see Moodle for details). Some optional consultation meetings are offered on Zoom.

Student workload

Completion alternatives
The students may, not later than a week before the start of the course, present a written plan/proposal to the Lecturer on an alternative way to complete the course. The Lecturer decides on granting the student an alternative study plan (RPL).

Authentic materials and real/realistic learning tasks supporting the students' adoption of contemporary communicative practices.
International connections
The students are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the Haaga-Helia partner universities in Europe and globally.
