Objectives (course unit)
After completing the course, the teacher student is able to:
- Design and deliver high-quality presentations using AI-enhanced digital tools.
- Use the most common AI applications used in teaching and creating educational materials.
- Incorporate participatory and activating AI applications effectively, tailored to their specific field and subject matter.
- Develop pedagogically sound lesson plans by integrating AI tools with traditional pedagogical methods.
- Employ AI-driven software and online services in a manner that enhances teaching efficiency and effectiveness.
Content (course unit)
During the study unit, we seek answers to the following questions:
- What is artificial intelligence (AI) and how does it work?
- How can AI enhance teaching and learning?
- How do humans and AI systems interact?
- How can teachers leverage AI to create rich teaching and learning materials?
- What are the teacher's ethical responsibilities in using AI in education?
- What are the current trends and future scenarios in AI and education?

Knowing
Structuring the relationships between the phenomena and concepts covered during the course. Applying, explaining, comparing, and analyzing contents from the viewpoint of a vocational teacher.
Student Teacher:
- Understands the role of AI in enhancing educational practices and the future of teaching.
- Knows the central ethical considerations related to AI in education.
- Is aware of current trends and future scenarios in AI and education.
- Understands the broader implications of AI in teaching.
Doing
Being able to plan and choose suitable AI tools and methods for their work and justify their choices as a vocational teacher. Applying the theory taught in the course when solving challenges and using the possibilities offered by the theory base in their work.
Student Teacher:
- Plans, documents, and presents an AI-enhanced teaching activity in their own field.
- Works in their field, considering the impact of AI trends and future research.
- Identifies and evaluates the ethical and practical implications of using AI in their teaching, promoting responsible AI use.
Developing as a Teacher
Giving and receiving active and constructive feedback. Evaluating issues from their own and their community’s viewpoints. Collaborating responsibly and being ready to develop communication skills. Recognizing and following the ethical principles of a teacher’s work. Describing and evaluating the economic and wellbeing-promoting impact of their actions.
Student Teacher:
- Implements an AI-enhanced teaching activity in an ethical manner.
- Evaluates their own work from the perspectives of modern use of AI in teaching.
- Collaborates constructively in networks, sharing insights and best practices in using AI.
- Recognizes the connections between AI in education and broader social phenomena, understanding their potential impact.

Assessment methods and criteria
Active participation in lectures and the final seminar.
Actively take part in in small group activities, doing the final individual assignment, acquiring the learning badge.

This course is a Blended Intensive training Programme.
International connections
This is a BIP (Blended Intensive Programme) international training course with students coming from Finland, Ireland and the Netherlands. BIP programmes are designed to be short and intensive, providing a concentrated learning experience. BIPs combine physical mobility (short-term travel) with a virtual component. This means students or staff participate in both in-person and online activities.
