Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)

In the Animation and Visual Effects Business course, the student learns the basic production pipelines, crew roles, career options, and basics of funding and budgeting.

After completing the course the student is able to know:
• production pipeline and general production steps of Animation and Visual Effects projects.
• crew roles and career options, the variety of different professions in animation and Visual Effects business,
• how to work as a freelancer in this field.
• relevant business elements, e.g. the funding and the basics of a producer's job in animation and Visual Effects productions.

Sisältö (Opintojakso)

The course prepares the student on how to manage projects in the Animation and VFX fields. The aim of this course is to make the process of initiating, funding and running an animation project or VFX project understandable from different working roles. These roles include producer, animator, and layout artist, to mention a few. Student reflects on the course content in a learning diary.

The student:
• demonstrates a basic understanding of the production pipelines and crew roles in Animation and Visual Effects projects.
• identifies basic elements of funding, budgeting, and producer roles in a project context.
• engages in discussions and group activities, contributing to the completion of assignments and visualisations.
• writes self-reflections but may lack depth or detailed insight into personal learning and development.

The student:
• exhibits a clear understanding of Animation and Visual Effects production, analysing general production steps and identifying various crew roles and career options.
• applies principles of funding and budgeting to create a plausible project scenario in animation and Visual Effects.
• actively engages in course activities, collaborates with peers, and contributes constructive ideas.
• articulates thoughts and self-reflections effectively in both discussions and written formats, demonstrating a good understanding of the course content.

Aika ja paikka

The sessions take place in Mediapolis campus. The visiting lecturers will be online. For the online sessions there will be a zoom room link provided in the moodle.

The course includes two field trips. One in Tampere and another to Helsinki. The students will need to pay the traveling tickets to the field trips on their own expense.

Evaluation is based on the learning diary and the hand-on tasks the students produce during the course.

Opiskelumuodot ja opetusmenetelmät

Online lectures and visiting lecturers are showcasing the industry practices and the working life examples. Hands-on exercises on creating materials for industry projects.

There is an online moodle-implementation for the course.

During the course the students will produce a learning diary.

Oppimateriaalit

Recordings of the visiting lecturers' sessions will be provided in the moodle along with the other materials by the lecturers.
