Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)

The student
- knows how to support the growth and development of both healthy and sick children;
- knows how to support and guide families in parenthood;
- is able to recognize the risk factors related to parenthood, upbringing and healthy lifestyles
- is able, under supervision, as a member of a multidisciplinary team and in collaboration with the child and family, to assess the need for care, plan, implement and evaluate the paediatric care, by using evidence-based nursing;
- knows the most common children's diseases

Sisältö (Opintojakso)

- growth, development and fostering of a healthy child
- support for parenthood, risk factors related to children, and families’ wellbeing
- recognition of child abuse and early interventions
- children’s rights
- principles of paediatric nursing
- impact of a child’s disease on the child and family
- interaction, communication, guidance and play with the child/family in various situations of paediatric care
-paediatric and family nursing care and the most common paediatric diseases
-basics of nursing care for children with special needs
-the most common investigations and procedures of paediatric patients, as well as patient education and guidance related to them
-basics of paediatric medication management and IV fluid therapy and the principles of pain management for paediatric patients at different ages
-paediatric terminal care, death
- special issues in children's nutrition
- most common children's diseases

30 ects of initial stage studies must be completed before entering the middle stage studies.

Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet

Mandatory participation in Orientation, in all sessions of small group work, and completion of all tasks by 17.9.
Part 1 Nursing care and Paediatrics and nutrition
-graded (0-5) test, approved tasks. Participation in online classes.
Part 2 Small group work: Cases and Seminar
-pass/fail. 100% active and constructive participation.
Part 3 Small group work calculations and iv fluid therapy.
Part 4 Children's calculation
- pass/fail. 100% correct calculation.

Mandatory sessions for all participants: Orientation 5 August, Small group work -Cases, Calculations workshops in small groups and Cases presentations small group work. Compensations for mandatory parts: Orientation: summary to Anna Rinne, Cases and seminar: creating a case independently on acute illness ( topic given by Katariina Kunnas) with PEWS and preparing a ppt- presentation (min. 5 slides + reference slide) and providing feedback to every other prsentations based on minumun of 2 references. Individual presentation and feedbacks are submitted to TUNI moodle by 15.9.20
Calculation: submit all tasks (calculations and pharmacotherapy) to moodle's submission platform by 15.9.20
