Objectives (course unit)

The students know
- the basic structures of local networks
-the use of wireless local area networks
- the basic principles of active devices
- the basics of encryption
- the use of IP addresses
- about the principles of Ethernet based networks used in industry.

Content (course unit)

Structures of topologies, the basic principles and cabling of local area networks,. the OSI model, frame structures, the functions and features of active devices, the use if IP- addresses, creating subnetworks. The structure and encryption of wireless networks. The principle and use of Profinet and Ethercat networks.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

Opiskelija tuntee teollisuuden tietoverkkojen ja tietoturvallisuuden perusperiaatteet. Opiskelija ottaa vastuuta omasta osaamisestaan ja osaa toimia ryhmässä.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

Opiskelija kykenee soveltamaan teollisuuden tietoverkkojen ja tietoturvallisuuden osaamistaan käytäntöön ja omaa valmiudet osoittaa osaamisensa. Opiskelija ottaa vastuuta oman osaamisensa kehittämisestä ja ryhmän työskentelystä.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

Opiskelija osaa itsenäisesti ja laaja-alaisesti soveltaa käytäntöön teollisuuden tietoverkkojen ja tietoturvallisuuden asiakokonaisuudet ja omaa valmiudet osoittaa osaamisensa. Opiskelija on oma-aloitteinen, ja ottaa vastuun oman osaamisensa kehittämisestä ja ryhmän työskentelystä.

Classroom teaching according to reading order in autumn 2025 in TAMK Kuntokatu campus.
Possible remote lessons are informed in advance.

Assessment methods and criteria

Final exam, practice work, homework excercises. Final grade consists of exams points and practice works approvements. Weights: cybersecurity 40 %, industrial networks 60 %.

Teaching methods

Industrial Networks 3 cr (ects), Cybersecurity 2 cr (ects).
Classroom/remote teaching, demonstrations, excercises, practice work, and exam.
In both sections bonus excercise, that gives an opportunity to get +1 increase to final grade in that section.

Teaching material is in Moodle course platform (moodle.tuni.fi)

Cybersecurity:
Classroom teaching 2 h, and Final Exam.
Student's self-paced studying ca. 35 h.

Industrial Networks:
Classroom teaching 8 h, and Final Exam.
Student's self-paced studying ca. 50 h.
