Tavoitteet (OJ)
The student knows and understands the unit processes of paper and paper board making and can evaluate their effects on paper quality, costs and on environment.

Basics of different pulping methods and fibers.

Knowing: recognizes different paper board and paper making processes, names the parts of the processes and devices, defines the most important terms, understand the factors affecting quality in different parts of the processes.
Acting: manages the assigned tasks under supervision/assisted.
Being: can give and receive feedback, can work in a group, takes responsibility for his/her own work.
Arviointikriteerit, hyvä (3-4) (OJ)
Knowing: structures relations between field-related phenomena and concepts, applies knowledge on the tasks. Explains different kind of paper board and paper making processes, compares the different devices and reasons for using these, structures things in relation to one another.
Acting: applies substance matter learnt in previous studies, makes a plan/plans before carrying out tasks, limits tasks/problems to have an appropriate scope, solves problems.
Being: can give and receive feedback actively and constructively, can cooperate responsibly and is ready to develop his/her interaction skills.
Recognizes and follows the important courses of action in the field.
Takes responsibility and commits to the group activities in addition to his/her own work.

Knowing: Analyses how different types of manufacturing processes affect the product quality, costs and environment, describes with arguments the optimal process for manufacturing different paper board and paper grades.
Acting: can search for diverse solution alternatives, justify his/her choices and try new courses of action, assesses diverse solution alternatives, combines solution alternatives creatively or creates new ones
Being: can cooperate responsibly, flexibly and constructively, develops his/her own and the group's interaction, works responsibly and in a committed manner considering the community and field requirements and needs.
Aika ja paikka
According to schedule discussed in the beginning of the course. Primarily 2 h remote lectures and 2 h class room lecures in a week. Actual time schedule will also be available on courses Moodle working platform.

Exam days will be set together with the students during the course.
Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet
Total 60 p comprise of the following parts:
- Two exams, 20 points each (total max 40 p., 8/20 p from both parts are needed to pass)
- Group work and its presentation (compulsory to pass the course, max 10 p)
- Voluntary homeworks (max 6 p.: 1 p per each homework that is done well and submitted in time).
- Voluntary participation to lectures (max. 4 points are given basewd on attendance as follows: 4 p (85 - 100 %), 3 p. (75 - 85 %), 2 p. 65 - 75 %), 1 p. (55 - 65 %).
- Activity and engagement in lessons can increase the grade

Contact teaching (both remote and in classroom lectures), group work and its presentation, possibly visiting lectures and a mill visit. Home assignments. Group discussions and assignments.

Approximately 50 hours contact lessons (remote and in class), 85 h own work: studying lecture materials, preparing for exams, homework, group work and its presentation
