Objectives (course unit)

Students are able:
- Calculate energy balances
- Calculate engine work cycles
- Calculate heat transfer
- Dimension engine radiator
- Estimate combustion energy

Content (course unit)

Students calculate heat balances for various machines and vehicles
Conductive, convective and radiation heat transfer principles
Engine work cycle corner, heat transfer and power calculations
Radiator dimensioning
Fuel heating, evaporation, oxygen mixing and after combustion

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

Students recognize laws of nature, physical quantities and units regarding vehicles and their equipment and can use those solve classroom problems. The calculated results may be wrong and solutions too simple but main part of the calculations are right. Students have problems in turning task in schedule.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

Students recognize laws of nature, physical quantities and units regarding vehicles and their equipment and can use those solve practical problems. The calculated results may have small errors and some parts may be slightly overlooked. Students are able to justify their solutions. Students are able to estimate the level of accuracy of the calculated results.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

Students recognize laws of nature, physical quantities and units regarding vehicles and their equipment and can use those solve practical problems. The calculated results may have small errors and some parts may be slightly overlooked. Students are able to justify their solutions.
