Objectives (course unit)

The Student
- is able to examine the patient according to the ABCDE protocol
- is able to inform the patient about the situation using the ISBAR method
- is able to act in emergencies with patients of different ages
- knows the basics of safe medication and fluid therapy
- is able to act with patient safety in mind

Participation in the for the courses according to the simulation before the simulation.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Pass
The Student
- works actively in simulation in different roles
- is able to act in emergencies
- identify situations that threaten the patient's condition
- is able to find out the key issues about the patient's current situation
- is able to inform the patient about the condition and changes in the condition
Rejected execution

Fail
The Student
- does not actively participate in simulations
- Emergency response endangers the patient's life
- does not recognize life-threatening situations in the patient's condition
- acts improperly in the situation
- cannot inform about issues related to the patient's condition.

The skills workshops are scheduled as follows:

Students select one option in Moodle (either participate in a Hospital Day or a Gastro Workshop):

Hospital Days: Four sessions available:

7 March (8:00–12:00 and 12:00–16:00)
16 May (8:00–12:00 and 12:00–16:00)
Gastro Workshops: Seven sessions available:

15 January, 5 February, 9 March, 26 March, 2 April, 16 April, and 14 May (12:30–15:30).

Simulation 1, Skill station training

Student workload

27 hours, including hands-on teaching in the Skills Workshop 9 hours.

Content scheduling

The teaching consists of two parts:

1)Skills Workshop Day
This day focuses on practicing resuscitation, cannulation, patient assessment, ECG, and catheterization.

2) Multidisciplinary Gastro Workshop or Hospital day

Hospital day is organized by the Faculty of Medicine, and TAMK, together. In the multidisciplinary workshop, Nursing students, Medicine students will work together

Gastro Workshop is organized by Pirha, the Faculty of Medicine, and TAMK, and this workshop covers PEG, NML, and stomas. In the multidisciplinary gastro workshop, Medicine students, Nursing students, and Registered Nurses will work together.
