Tavoitteet (OJ)
See how mediated reality is constructed!
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with historical and contemporary media theories, preparing them for critical media literacy throughout their studies at TAMK. After completing the contact course, students have a working grasp of relevant media-centred analytical tools and frameworks and are able to engage in a dialogue with those concepts through their own practical projects.

We look at concepts which develop an understanding of how media platforms impact on society; from narrative theory and semiotics to fandoms and representation. We focus on ethics, responsibility and awareness. Flexibility is built in to encapsulate emerging trends in media.

The student is able to identify and define phenomena and basic concepts related to the field of media and its impact on society. They can perform routine tasks and work responsibly in a group as well as giving and receiving informed feedback.

The student is able to explain and compare key concepts in the field of media theory. Their choice of applicable frameworks can be justified and helps expand understanding in the field. They are adept at giving and receiving feedback and commit to their own and their group's actions. They understand well the economic impacts of the industry.

The student understands the broad picture of media theory and how the parts fit together. They are able to utilize existing frameworks of understanding as well as experimenting with new ones. Their usage of feedback is systematic and aids professional growth. They are able to cooperate reliably, flexibly and with a sense of impact on the community at large. They understand well and can anticipate the economic implications of the work.
