Objectives (course unit)

The student:
-knows the forms of timber trade including e-timber trade and the roundwood market conditions in Finland and their significance in wood supply
-knows the marketing methods in timber trade and the basics of customer relationship management
-knows how to utilize forest resource information, how to purchase wood and how to make the documentation of purchasing
-is aware of different laws, regulations, forest certification and recommendations concerning forestry and knows how to take them into account during the different phases of wood supply

Content (course unit)

Timber Trade Design and Pricing Exercise, Wood Flow Exercises, Getting to Know Timber Purchaser's Job Tasks, Marketing Methods for Forest Owners, Wood Trade Laws and Wood Trade Agreements.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student knows the general principles of round wood trade, understands the conditions of wood market in Finland and their importance in round wood supply. He knows how to make purchase offers for the round wood trade, how to set the prices for the cutting area, and how to prepare the round wood trade documents, and knows how to compile those documents with some help. He / she knows the marketing methods targeted to forest owners by the round wood buyer and knows the importance of forest certification in the round wood trade.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student is familiar with round wood tradie practices, the conditions of the round wood market in Finland and their importance in wood procurement. He / she is able to utilize stand data and open source data for bidding, price defining and documentation related to round wood trade. He / she knows the marketing methods targeted to forest owners of the round wood buyer as well as the basics of customer relationship management and the importance of forest certification in the round wood purchasing process.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student is familiar with wood trading methods, the conditions of round wood market in Finland and their importance in wood procurement and knows how to utilize opportunities in round wood trade in many ways. He / she is able to utilize tree information and versatile open source data for bidding, price different logging areas and make wood trade related documents independently. He / she knows the marketing methods targeted to forest owners of the round wood buyer and the basics of customer relationship management.
