Objectives (course unit)

The student is able to analyse, communicate and debate timeless and topical issues of media culture, channels and platforms from different angles like the production process, consuming, ethics, sustainability and business.
The student can use some collaborative online services and prepare a presentation about media with a team. Student is able to collaborate in an international student team.

Assessment methods and criteria

Students are evaluated according to attendance, participation, own blog writing, peer blog feedback, weekly task completion, MindTrek attendance (TBC) and a final task with accompanying presentation.

Teaching methods

Lectures, classroom discussions, group work, blog writing, peer feedback, presentations, pre-tasks preparation for lectures.

Learning materials

Materials include PowerPoints from lectures, films, academic writing, online articles and games.

Student workload

Students are required to attend lectures each week, perform pre-tasks before the lectures and keep up a blog to document their own assignments. Additionally, students may be required to attend a two-day conference, MindTrek, in Tampere during the 15th -18th of November.
