Objectives (course unit)
The student knows and understands
• the unit processes of paper and paper board making and can evaluate their effects on paper quality and on environment
• the paper machine cloths and understands their effects on quality and on costs.
Content (course unit)
- Pulp slushing, deflaking and refinin
- Short and long circulations
- Handling the broke
- Headbox and wire section
- Press section and dryerg section
- Surface sizing and calendering
- Reeling, winding and sheeting
- Equipment and processes
- How to affct quality, costs and the environment
Location and time
Schedule to be shared with the students at the beginning of the course. In general 3h contact learning each week and 2h distant learning each week.
Exam schedules
Excursion to paper board or paper mill or to paper machine manufacturer if possible.
Assessment methods and criteria
Exams 2 * 20p, seminar 10 p, homework 6p and participation to lectures 4p. Altogether 60p. You have to get at least 8 points from each exam to pass the course.
