Objectives (course unit)

The student
- is able to interact professionally with both child and family
- is able to observe and evaluate the child's basic vital signs and general condition
- is able to safely implement medication and fluid therapy for children
- is able to apply evidence-based knowledge in paediatric nursing
- masters the basic resuscitation of a child
- knows how to act as part of a care team.

Content (course unit)

- interaction with a child and a family
- observation of the vital signs of a child
- the most common examinations and care procedures for a sick child
- administration of medication and fluid therapy in paediatric nursing
- guidance for the child and the family
- CPR for children of different ages
- the nursing process for a child and a family

Prerequisites (course unit)

First year studies 50 ects completed, including the course on Pharmacotherapy and Medical Calculations.
Participation in course on Paediatric Nursing.

27 hours: including mandatory Orientation 9 August 2022 , preparatory tasks, workshop before simulation, simulation.

Further information

in Skills and Simulation Center, Arvo-building, so scrubs needed. Everyone must be prepared to demonstrate all following skills: suctioning upper airways, and via tracheostomy, CPR of an infant and a child, taking measurements ( weight, length, head circumference), swaddling, administering oxygen/ inhalations/ IV infusions, insertion of an NG-tube, Insertion of an IV cannula, collecting urine samples.
