Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)
After completing this course student:
- understands the basic laws, concepts and processes of chemistry
- can calculate, write and balance chemical equations
- knows how to handle safely the chemicals and wastes in the laboratory
- knows how to use a range of laboratory equipments and is familiar with the steps of chemical analysis.
Sisältö (Opintojakso)
Chemical equilibrium, acids and bases, redox reactions, chemical law, acts, decrees, chemical equipments, basic qualitative and quantitative methods with use in analysis of environmental samples

Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet
The course grade will form according to the points collected as follows:
- 3-5 short assignments (max 3 points/assignment), containing the home exercises
- 3-4 laboratory reports (max 5 points/report)
- Exam max. X points
Before starting the laboratories each student has to take a safety exam
Grading:
grade 0: <50% of max scores
grade 1: 50-60% of max scores
grade 2: 60-70% of max scores
grade 3: 70-80% of max scores
grade 4: 80-90% of max scores
grade 5: >90% of max scores

The student may not have taken the safety exam before starting the laboratory work and not participated in all laboratory work. Laboratory report/reports or homework are not returned. Student may not have participated in the exams.
Overall the achieved competence is insufficient.
Arviointikriteerit - tyydyttävä (1-2) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)
The student took the safety exam before starting the laboratory work and participated in the laboratory work and did the laboratory reports. All the reports and homework are returned. Student participated in the exams.
Overall the achieved competence is sufficient but narrow.
Arviointikriteerit - hyvä (3-4) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)
The student took the safety exam before starting the laboratory work and participated in the laboratory work and did the laboratory reports. All the reports and homework are returned. Student participated in the exams. Overall the achieved competence is structural.

The student took the safety exam before starting the laboratory work and participated in the laboratory work and did the laboratory reports. All the reports and homework are returned on time. Student participated in the exams with good results. Student has shown activity during the lesson. Overall the achieved competence is wide.
