Objectives (course unit)
After completing the course, students can
- explain the emerging media in historical, industrial and societal contexts
- recognize, analyze and predict forms of emerging media
- reflect on and demonstrate their personal approach as a practitioner of emerging media
Content (course unit)
During the course, the students explore and discover what emerging media means and what kind of impact they may have on the industry and, in a broader sense, on society. Furthermore, the students demonstrate their own stance as practitioners of the emerging media field with showcases such as concept video, artwork and digital applications.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
The student identifies different forms of emerging media and analyzes their impact on her/his own professional field. The student describes and justifies his/her own stance as a practitioner of emerging media. The student describes connections between emerging media and sustainability. The student takes responsibility for her/his own work.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
The student explains different forms of emerging media and analyzes and evaluates their impact on her/his own professional field and, in a broader sense, on society. The student demonstrates her/his own stance as a practitioner of emerging media in a creative way that includes consideration of sustainability. The student develops intentionally her/his knowledge and skills in the emerging media.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
The student critically analyses different forms of emerging media and evaluates their impact on her/his own professional field and, in a broader sense, on society. The student justifies her/his arguments clearly. The student demonstrates her/his own stance as a practitioner of the emerging media creatively and provides an innovative approach to combining emerging media and sustainability. The student demonstrates excellent and open-minded attitude to her/his work, as well as towards fellow students’ knowledge and skills.

Task deadlines:
Task 1: post-task 14.9.2021
Task 2: academic essay 24.9., peer discussion 1.10.
Task 3: the pitch of concept ideas & reflection, 1.10.
Assessment methods and criteria
During the course, the student demonstrates his/her knowledge and skills in three tasks 1) 360 workshop teamwork and individual reflection on that, 2) academic essay and peer discussion (individual task), and 3) a concept pitch (teamwork).
Assessment is divided as follows:
Task 1: teamwork pass/fail, individual reflection 1-5 10 %
Task 2: 1-5, weight 60 %
Task 3: 1-5, weight 30 %

The course starts on 6.9. 2021 at 13 (Finnish time) at Mediapolis campus. Learning environment Moodle will be used for info and remote tasks and reflection.
