Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)
The student knows
- the most common paper and paper board converting products and can describe the manufacturing processes of them
- the raw material used in the different converting products, end usability requirements and markets
- link the knowlegdge to new products in the market and to the ones that could be developed
Sisältö (Opintojakso)
- corrugated board and its uses, cases, sleeves, tissue products, wrapping and elastic packings, liquid packaging boards, adhesive laminates, intelligent packings and other fibre based products
- raw-materials and product characteristics
- extrusion coating, dispersion coating, hot-melt and waxing, impregnation, laminating, metallizing, silicon coatin
- cutting and sheeting, bending and die-cutting, creasing, perforating, gluing, cutting, embossing.
Tenttien ja uusintatenttien ajankohdat
Student can choose two mid term exams or the final exam. Exams are arranged as remote exams via Forms. Both mid term exams has to be passed with minimum points so that the course can be accepted.

Student knows the core contents of the course on the basic level: s/he can name different packaging materials and parts of the packaging process, understand functions of packaging, general demands set by the products to the packing, role of packaging in distribution chain and general environmental considerations, which are related to the packaging. Student participates in the laboratory and group work.

Student knows the core contents of the course well: s/he can name different packaging materials and parts of the packaging process, understand functions of packaging, general demands set by the products to the packing, role of packaging in distribution chain and general environmental considerations which are related to the packaging. S/he is able to compare different packaging applications and estimate justifying their suitability for the packing of different products. The student acts actively in her/his group promoting the progress of the group work and laboratory work.

Student has in depth knowledge of the core content of the course. S/he can compare different packaging solutions critically, estimate justifying their suitability for the packing of different products and consider how it could be possible to develop the packaging so that so that the functionality of the product for example in the distribution chain would improve. The student acts actively and by various ways in her/his group with the successful completion of thelaboratory work and group work as the objective.
