Objectives (course unit)

After completing this course student:
- has adopted and understood the concepts of sustainable development, environmental impact assessment, LCA and environmental management.
- knows the main technologies in management of environmental pollution
- knows EIA process and can assist in the implementation of the process
- knows the basics of environmental management systems in the industry

Sustainability, principles of environmental engineering and management, environmental impact assessment process and LCA

Assessment methods and criteria

Short assignments, life cycle assessment (LCA) group work, participation in the lectures and discussion, exam. Short assignments conduct 25%, LCA work 25% and exam 25% of the final grade.

Student did not conduct the compulsory assignments and exam or the achieved competence is insufficient. This means that the student is not familiar with the basic concepts related to LCA, sustainability and environmental management systems.

Assessment criteria - satisfactory (1-2) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Student did the assignments and the exam. The achieved competence is sufficient but narrow.
Student shows throughout the course (assignments, classroom discussions) and at the exam that is familiar with the basic concepts and phenomena related to the LCA, sustainability and environmental management systems and has basic theoretical knowledge.

Assessment criteria - good (3-4) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Student did the assignments and the exam. The achieved competence is structured and student can apply the theoretical knowledge in known situations.
Student knows and understands the basic concepts and phenomena related to the LCA, sustainability and environmental management systems. Student is motivated towards the subjects discussed.

Assessment criteria - excellent (5) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Student did the assignments and the exam. The achieved competence is wide and student can apply the theoretical knowledge in known and new situations. Student has fluent knowledge and understanding of the basic concepts and phenomena related to the LCA, sustainability and environmental management systems. Student is motivated towards the subjects discussed, shows creativity and has a positive attitude towards developing itself.
