Cross-cultural communication skills are becoming more and more important in today’s world of business and globalisation. Having knowledge of different cultures facilitates communication in multi-cultural working environments.
The purpose of this course is to equip students with intercultural business knowledge by real-case examples. The course is designed as an online course in collaboration with TAMK's strategic partners including Munich University of Applied Sciences.

The learning outcomes will include cross-cultural communication skills in various situations.

Group or team meetings, online meetings and presentations, individual study and assignments, research and writing reports.

There will be no exams. The grading will be done according quality of work produced in the forums and final report.

Opiskelumuodot ja opetusmenetelmät

The course is an online course. self-study and teamwork. Students will be required to give online presentations using ZOOM or Adobe Connect. Group discussions and group dialogue, where groups meet to discuss specific topics with the help of reading materials.

The student can perform in communicative situations in English according to instructions and can write acceptable English. The student has completed 80% of attendance, knows the basic cultural theories, knows the difference between formal and different communication, and that the student can give participate in video conference. Student has submitted at least, one written assignment and has participated in the forum discussion.

Arviointikriteerit - hyvä (3-4) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)

The student can perform in communicative situations in English according to instructions and can write acceptable English. The student has completed 80% of attendance, knows the basic cultural theories, knows the difference between formal and different communication, and that the student can give participate in video conference. Student has submitted all written assignment and has participated in the forum discussion. Student's English is mainly clear and appropriate. Written work meets norms for different types of text, including scientific reporting. Oral communication is professional. Requirements regarding participation, meeting deadlines etc. are mainly fulfilled.

The student can perform in communicative situations in English according to instructions and can write acceptable English. The student has completed 80% of attendance, knows the basic cultural theories, knows the difference between formal and different communication, and that the student can give participate in video conference. Student has submitted all written assignment and has participated in the forum discussion.
Students’ written English is formal and accurate and displays appropriate variation in style; reports meet norms for different types of text; students show ability to access and select appropriate information; references to source materials are incorporated accurately and in a variety of ways; source materials are expertly paraphrased. Oral expression is fluent and professional. Requirements regarding participation, meeting deadlines etc. are consistently fulfilled.
