The student knows the structures and functions of the human body and can understands the human being as a physical functional enterity.
The student knows the essential terms of anatomy and physiology.
The student can apply the above mentioned knowledge both in studies and in working life.
The student learns how to exploit different sources in data acquisition both independently and with fellow students.
The student learns to use effectively the time spent on independent studying.

Contents of the course and aims:
MUSCULOSCLETAL SYSTEM
The student can name and identify the large bones of the body and their structures and understands how joints between the bones are formed.
The student can to explain the structure of the joint and understand its function.
The student understands how the muscle contracts, can identify superficial muscles and knows how they move the joints.
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM ORGANS AND FUNCTIONS
The student knows the organs of the gastrointestinal tract and their structure. He or she can explain the digestion, absorption, transportation and storage of nutrients. The student understand the basis of glucose metabolism.
The student is familiar with the liver function and bile formation.
The student knows the effect of autonomic nervous system and hormones on the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.
URINARY TRACT, FLUID BALANCE, ACID BASE HOMEOSTASIS
The student recognizes the parts of the urinary tract and knows their structure.He or she can explain the function of nephron and understand the significance of urinary excretion for liquid and electrolyte balance and pH.The student knows the fluid volumes of the body and the fluid circulation.
HORMONES AND REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
The student knows the most important endocrine glands in the body, the hormones they produce and their response.The student understands the effect between the endocrine glands and the biological feedback that maintains the hormonal balance.
The student knows the structure and function of the male and female reproductive organs, is able to explain menstrual cycles, fertilization, attachment of the embryo and the development of the fetus.
The student knows the structure and the functions of the placenta.
SKIN AND SENSES (independent studying only)
The student knows the structure and importance of the skin in the regulation of heat, in the maintenance of fluid balance and in the physical and immunological defense and as a sensory organ of the body. He or she knows the role of skin in secretion and vitamin D synthesis.
The student is familiar with the structure and function of the sensory organs. He understands how the stimulus causes the sensory cell activation and impulse, and how the sensation is generated.
