Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)

On completing an area studies course, the students will
1. Have knowledge of particular regions and countries
2. Gain a critical awareness of diversity across societies both past and present
3. Develop their international business awareness and intercultural adaptability
4. Understand the signifigance of various nordic and common business languages,
5. Deepen their understanding for exchange or international practical training period in the region

Sisältö (Opintojakso)

Scandinavian Business course emphasize a practical knowledge approach and they familiarize the students with the region in question from a business point of view.
This will help them to develop their international business awareness and intercultural adaptability.
The topics include:
Scandinavia general overview, business environment, countries, languages, religions, climate, democracies, monarchies, EU/Non-EU, cultural features, business behaviour.

No written examination. All work is assessed.

Active participation in contact sessions, team work, assignments, essays, reports, presentations. Business culture report and presentation of it.

Opiskelijan ajankäyttö ja kuormitus

This course is 5 credits which means about 135 hours of student work in total. Contact teaching including special sessions and workshops will be about 45 hours, the remaining hours consist of studying the course literature, course-related work and assignments. Attendance of 75 % in contact teaching is required.

Student has not achieved the objectives of the course on a sufficient level. Student is not able to recognize, determine and use the concepts and models of the Scandinavian Business course.

Student has achieved the objectives of the course on a sufficient level. Student understands the premises and principles of Scandinavian business. Student recognizes, is able to determine and use the concepts and models of the course on a level 1-2.

Student has achieved the objectives of the course well although the skills and competences are somewhat in need of further development. Student is able to determine and apply the concepts and models well and is able to apply them in most tasks. Student has achieved the level 3-4.

Student has achieved the objectives of the course on an excellent level. The student masters the concepts and models in an excellent manner. Student is able to conduct fluent and reasoned analysis and has good capabilities to apply the learning. Student has achieved the excellent level.
