Objectives (course unit)

After successful completion of the course students:

- are able to communicate professionally using the most essential and concrete matters relating to energy and environmental engineer’s work: to speak and write the basics of recycling and laboratory work
- have clearly improved their oral and written competence
- can produce past tense sentences with correct object forms quite well

Content (course unit)

- basic professional Finnish for energy and environmental engineering students using material Hyvin menee 1, authentic materials as well as the materials created by the teacher
- much speech communication and writing exercises

Level A2 (CEFR) Finnish skills or
5N00BN91 and 5N00BN94 (Finnish for Foreigners 1 and 2)

Exam schedules

The dates of smaller tests will be announced later on: there won't be a large final exam.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Continuous assessment based on classwork, active participation (to pass the course the minimum attendance 80 % is required), accepted exercises, passed smaller tests and text tasks. The mark will be given on the strenght of activity, an object test, a professional video and results of written texts and comprehension tests.

Student workload

Two double contact lessons per week. Qite much independant work to strenghten the skills of basic Finnish.

Content scheduling

In the beginning of the course revising the contents learnt last year. Then essential Finnish in energy and environmental engineer's work - also a couple of new important structures.

Absences more than 20 % and/or undone/unaccepted tasks/tests.

Assessment criteria - satisfactory (1-2) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

A student has completed all the assignments acceptably and attended at least 80 % of the contact lessons. A student can participate in a simple conversation on very familiar topics using memorized words and phrases.

Assessment criteria - good (3-4) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

A student has an active attitude towards learning language and culture showing that by completing tasks according to the schedule.

Assessment criteria - excellent (5) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

A student has a positive and active attitude towards learning language. She or he shows that he or she understands the importance of good Finnish skills in working life by completing tasks extraordinary way and showing her/his will to learn more.
