Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)

The student
• can describe the principles of different printing methods
• knows the phases of the printing process
• knows the demand for the printing substrates in different printing methods and can apply this knowledge to paper manufacturing
• uses visual evaluation methods as well as devices to evaluate the print quality
• analyze the printing defects and produce the solutions to solve them.

Examinations 23 + 23 p., reports and homework 10 p. presence on the lessons 4 p. (85 - 100 %), 3 p. (75 - 85 %), 2 p. 65 - 75 %), 1 p. (55 - 65 %) some bonus tasks

Sisällön jaksotus

History and future of printing, quality formation and measuring of the print. Offset printing, rotogravure printing, flexo, electrophotography, ink-jet printing and other digital methods and how paper behaves with these printing methods. Functional printing. Printing inks. Finishing of print.

Week 2-3 History and future of printing, Print structure and quality, wk 3 - 4 Gravure and flexo and their interactions, wk 5 digital methods, wk 6 excursion (?), revision, wk 7 examination, offset wk 8 -10 offset and its interactions, wk 11 - 13 laboratory, wk 13 - 14 runnability, excursion (?), printed samples, laboratory reports, wk 16 - 17 revision, exam and feedback.

Prerequisites
Basic knowledge about paper making and paper grades.

Knowing: recognises different printing processes, names the parts of the processes and devices, defines the most important terms.
Doing: manages the assigned tasks under supervision/assisted.
Being: can give and receive feedback, can work in a group, takes responsibility for his/her own work.

Arviointikriteerit - hyvä (3-4) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)

Knowing: structures relations between field-related phenomena and concepts, applies knowledge on the tasks. Explains the printing processes and problems, compares the different printing processes and products, structures things in relation to one another.
Doing: applies substance matter learnt in previous studies, makes a plan/plans before carrying out tasks, limits tasks/problems to have an appropriate scope, solves problems.
Being: can give and receive feedback actively and constructively, can cooperate responsibly and is ready to develop his/her interaction skills.
Recognises and follows the important courses of action in the field.
Takes responsibility and commits to the group activities in addition to his/her own work.
