Professional Communication (3 op)

Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)

After completing this course students will deploy on a larger scale all the writing skills which they have been developing throughout the ENVE programme.
In addition, the students will find out about abstracts and maturity tests (comprehensive competence exams) as separate text types. They can give professional presentations about their own work and host events with their colleagues and co-workers in a good manner.

The grade is given based on
- completing tasks in Tabula (see return forum for tasks)
- workshop given in the group and the reflection of it (via the Electronic Examination Service)
- self assessment (= a final report)

Opiskelumuodot ja opetusmenetelmät

The course consists of series of workshops run by the students. The workshops need to be well prepared with clear aims and tasks including a follow-up task.

Tasks are completed. Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of
most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information,
shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and
routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on
familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her
background, immediate environment and matters related to studies

Completes tasks as requested.
Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of
specialisation. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that
makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain
for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects
and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly
and effectively for professional purposes. Can produce
clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled
use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
