Objectives (course unit)
Opiskelija
-osaa toimia tarkoituksenmukaisesti sairaalan ulkopuolisessa synnytyksessä ja lapsen elvytystilanteessa.
- osaa tarkkailla lasta ja osaa perustaidot hoitotyön auttamismenetelmistä
- osaa kohdata ammatillisesti ja olla vuorovaikutuksessa lapsen ja perheen kanssa
- osaa tunnistaa, ohjata ja tukea potilasta ja perhettä lapsen kasvussa ja kehityksessä, terveyden edistämisessä, voimavarojen tukemisessa ja ylläpitämisessä.
-osaa ohjatusti ja turvallisesti toteuttaa lasten lääke- ja nestehoitoa
-osaa soveltaa näyttöön perustuvaa tietoa lasten hoitotyössä, ja työskennellä eettisesti ja vastuullisesti perheen kulttuuritaustan huomioiden työyhteisössä

Osallistuminen lasten ja nuorten hoitotyö sekä äitiys- ja naisen hoitotyö opintojaksoihin.
Evaluation methods and criteria
Part 1: Maternity and gynaecological nursing, skills stations 1 ECT
- Requires active participation during the skills stations.
Part 2 and 3: Pediatric nursing and pediatrics, skills stations 1 ECT
- Workshop and simulations
- Workshop assignments must be completed before simulation practices (studying the given material, demonstrating assigned skills and active work in workshop)
- Simulation practices require active participation, reflection of own knowledge and givin feedback to peers.
- Evaluated as passed/failed.

Student workload
Part 1: Maternity care and gynaecological nursing skills station 1 ECT
- 27hours include participation in contact lessons (12h) and independent studies (15h). The content is included in the reading of the exam material of Maternity care and gynaecological nursing, the 15h of independent studies are allocated for preparing for the exam.
Part 2: Pediatric nursing, skills stations 1 ECT
- 27h includes participation in lessons (skills stations and simulation) and independent studies.

Part 1: Maternity care and gynaecological nursing skills station 1 ECT
You can participate without scrubs.
Learning goals:
The student
- knows the first aid of a woman in labour and her newborn and knows how to act in a delivery outside the hospital
- is able to observe and care for a newborn
- is able to guide a family in breastfeeding and daily care for the newborn
- is able to apply maternity care theory during pregnancy check ups
- is able to work safely as a part of a team
- is able to reflect his/her own actions and give feedback to peers
Content:
- the pregnancy process case work
- assisting in delivery outside the hospital
- observing and daily care of a newborn baby
- guidance of parents in breastfeeding and daily care of a newborn
Parts 2 and 3: Pediatric nursing, skills stations 1 ECT
Wear scrubs for the skills stations. Scrubs are not required in simulations
Learning goals:
The students
- is able to monitor basic vital signs of a child
- is able to perform basic care to a newborn
- knows the essential examinations methods and nursing care of a child
- knows the basics in medication care and fluid therapy of a child
- is able to perform cpr of a child in different ages
- knows the basics of guiding a child and family
- is able to work as a part of a team
- is able to reflect own actions and give feedback to peers
Content:
- monitoring vital signs of a child
- care of a sick newborn
- the most common examinations and care methods of a sick child
- pediatric medication and fluid therapy
- guidance of a child and family
- cpr of children in different ages
- the care process of children and families
Assessment criteria - pass/fail (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)
Passed: active participation in all parts
Failed: absence from any part
