Objectives (course unit)

The course describes the meaning of business responsibility and sustainability development in local and global business. Students learn the content of those concepts very widely. Students learn to apply the theory of business responsibility and sustainability development to real companies.

After completing the course, the students will be able to:

- Describe the main contents of business responsibility and sustainable development
- Understand the meaning of those perspectives in business life
- Collect, analyze and compare the business responsibility and sustainable development of companies
- Apply the knowledge of business responsibility and sustainability development to real companies business

Content (course unit)

What is the content of business responsibility?
What is the content of sustainability development?
Why are they relevant for the companies?
How can companies tell these things to its stakeholders?
Co-operation project with international partners

Evaluation methods and criteria

Activity, assignments, presentation, interview, international week.
Self- and group assessment.
40 % of activity, assignments, individual and group work + book essay
20% % of corporate responsibility assignment (report + presentation)and
trip to Leiria (working + results) 40%

International week is compulsory.

5 credits. Lots of learning by doing.

Content scheduling

Every week own agenda. Several different themes.
Third period contents information about topics.
Fourth period international week 13.

Practical training and working life cooperation

Students are going to visit some finnish company (they have to find that company themselves) and clear how they operate with the topic.

International connections

2 credits of 5 is coming from that international co-operation.

Further information

The course contents international project of five days in Portugal in spring 2016. The student has to pay 100 - 200 euro own money for travelling and overnights costs. Of course more own money is needed for food etc.
Student has to take part of third periods lessons. It is not possible to participate only the trip.

Student has achieved the objectives of the course sufficiently. Student understands the premises and principles of corporate responsibility. Student recognizes aspects of corporate responsibility.

Student has achieved the objectives of the course well although the skills and competences are somewhat in need of further development. Student is able to determine and apply the concepts and models of corporate responsibility well and is able to conduct reasoned analysis.

Assessment criteria - excellent (5) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Student has achieved the objectives of the course excellently. The student masters the concepts and models of corporate responsibility in an excellent manner. Student is able to conduct fluent and reasoned analysis and has good capabilities to apply the learning.
