Finnish as a Foreign Language 2 (5 op)

Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)

The course builds up the knowledge and use of Finnish language in everyday situations, and it also provides wider perspective to Finnish culture. Estimated level A2.1.

After completing the course, the students will be able to:

Tell about future plans to a Finn in common situations.
Understand standard business related messages in Finnish.
Understand standard spoken Finnish.
Communicate with Finns in typical occasions.

Sisältö (Opintojakso)

How to express plans in good and clear manner in Finnish, spoken and written?
How to actively broaden vocabulary in daily situations?
How to understand business communication in Finnish?
What are the most common features of spoken Finnish?
How to become an observer of Finnish culture and learn about that?

Tenttien ja uusintatenttien ajankohdat

Midterm exam in December at the same time as the lessons. The place will be informed later.
Final exam in March, at the end of 3rd period. The date will be announced when the schedule for the 3rd period is ready

Tabula is a platform for extra material submitted by teacher, for students to submit written tasks (using structure and vocabulary). Be active, if you cannot come to the class, ask fellow students about the homework. Make use of possibilities to surround yourself with Finnish, follow the news in Finnish, listen to the music in Finnish, watch Finnish tv.

A student has not attended the lessons enough, has not completed written tasks, fails in the exams, is not able to achieve grade 1 explained in grading 1-2.

Arviointikriteerit - tyydyttävä (1-2) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)

A student has completed all the assignments acceptably and attended contact lessons at least 80 %. She/he is able to tell some things about her/his future plans in Finnish in most common situations. She/he is able to understand a few topics in standard business related messages in Finnish, and cope to some extent in situations in which Finns use spoken language.

Arviointikriteerit - hyvä (3-4) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)

A student has an active attitude towards studying Finnish language and culture, and shows that by completing written tasks according to the schedule. She/he is able to tell about future plans understandably in common situations. A student understands main topics in standard business related messages in Finnish. She/he is able to explain her/his ideas and plans clearly. She/he understands main topics in everyday conversations with Finns who talk standard spoken language.

Arviointikriteerit - kiitettävä (5) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)

A student has a positive and active attitude towards learning language and is genuinely interested in Finnish culture, and brings it up by expressing her/his findings about cultural matters. A student understands more than just main topics in standard business related messages in Finnish. She/he can cope in situations with Finns talking standard spoken Finnish, when topics are related to matters she/he is interested in, and/or topics concern everyday life.
