Osaamistavoitteet (Opintojakso)

This basic management accounting course provides the students with knowledge of fundamental management accounting terminology, theories, methods and practices. Completing the course will enable the students to work on product and service costing and pricing, profitability analyzes and development as well as in the field of budgeting, reporting and forecasting. The course also introduces some new performance measures as tools for divisional or product and service level performance measurement and evaluation.

After completing the course, the students will be able to:

Communicate and co-operate in management accounting English.
Utilize product costing and pricing most popular methods and practices.
Analyze the cost structure of a company to be able to work on profitability improvement programmes and projects.
Prepare the master budgets, budget reports and forecasts of a company on a basic level.
Evaluate divisional as well as product and service level performance applying relevant performance measures.

What are the key contents and practices of today's management accounting and cost management?
How can the corporate business processes be managed effectively and efficiently by the means of financial planning and control procedures?
How can performance measurement and evaluation be performed succesfully on a divisional or a product and service level?

Tenttien ja uusintatenttien ajankohdat

First exam during the course, in November. Exam retakes on the School of Business general exam dates (see more in detail on TenttiWilho retake system later on, if necessary).

Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet

The weight of active participation during the lessons and performing the exercises, assignment etc. is 40-50%, and the weight of the exam is 50-60%. Passing the exam is a must for the student to get an acceptable overall grade of the course.

Opiskelijan ajankäyttö ja kuormitus

Approx. 30-33 hrs will be used for contact teaching. The maximum workload of the students is preplanned as max. 130 hrs, including the course literature, exercises, analyses, company cases etc.
