Objectives (course unit)
Students learn typical structural systems and types of wood, concrete, brick and steel buildings. Students learn the principles of both supporting and non-supporting structures. Students can use their information on supporting structures as a part of the architectural idea of the building.
After completing the course, students know the structural system principles and suitability for diverse building types and implementation methods. Students know the most typical structural types of dry and sanitary cabins in wooden and concrete buildings and can use the structures in architectural design. Students know the construction principles of diverse frame materials and the most common connection methods. Practical design assignments are a key learning method.
