Objectives (course unit)
The student
-is able to describe nursing tasks in the work place;
-is able to communicate professionally with patients, their significant others and colleagues by observing nursing values and principles;
-is able to support, guide and empower patients' self-care and help patients in their daily activities by using safe nursing interventions;
-is able to monitor the patient's vital signs to identify the patient's basic needs;
-is able to make the nursing plan for his/her own patient in a holistic way, and give an oral and written report;
-is able to work ergonomically and follow aseptic principles;
-is able to safely implement patients' medication and fluid therapy under supervision;
-is able to plan his/her personal learning outcomes and evaluate his/her learning during the clinical training;
-is able to identify his/her own development challenges.

The criteria of a passed level in the Clinical Training
The student:
-Is aware of the meaning of a nursing care relationship as part of good care.
-Discusses and communicates in a professional manner with patients and in the work community.
-Carries out professional secrecy and responsibility for performed nursing care.
-Meets every patient as a valuable human and aims to carry out nursing care principals in their work.
-Is able to gain and evaluate information in a critical way, although still needs assistance in reasoning actions
-Is able to see the nursing care process of a patient, needs support in documentation and reporting.
-Is able to assess the patients need for help, estimate patients coping means and respond to a patients basic needs and their changes partly independently mastering the basic nursing care methods.
-Knows how to monitor vital functions and their changes partly under guidance.
-Works following aseptic practice and aims to work in an ergonomic way.
-Is able, under guidance, to carry out medication without mistakes.
-Is able to monitor the effects of medication.
-Is able to recognize his/her limitations of skills in medication.
-Is able to perceive the job description of a nurse in the working community.
-Is able to define personal learning goals in a realistic way.
-Has a positive attitude towards developing skills and recognizes own developmental challenges.
Criteria of a failed level in the Clinical Training:
The student:
-Is not aware of the meaning of a nursing care relationship as part of good care.
-Can not discuss and communicate in a professional manner or brakes the professional secrecy.
-Treats patients in an unprofessional manner and takes no notice of the individual nursing care needs of the patient.
-Does not function in a responsible way in nursing care.
-Is not able to reason his/her actions.
-Is not able to report or document in a professional way, patient safety is risked.
-Does not see the nursing care process as a foundation for nursing care.
-Does not know how to monitor vital functions or recognize changes in the patients situation endangering patient safety.
-Does not master basic nursing care methods and is not able to carry out pre-planned actions.
-Does not work according to aseptic practice.
-Makes repeated mistakes in medication endangering patient safety.
-Is not able to practice or carry out concrete tasks in the Medication Passport, given the limits of the ward.
-Is not able to perceive the job description of a nurse on the ward.
-Is not able to evaluate personal learning in a realistic way.
-Is not able to receive feedback or recognize his/her developmental challenges.
