Prerequisites: upper secondary school English or equivalent. This is an advanced course on English grammar

The course is taught in English and it is also suitable for non-Finnish students, including exchange students.
The students study independently in on-line learning environment and return the assignments according to the instructions given in on-line learning environment. There are no contact lessons except for the exam, which is done on paper either at TAMK or at the student's own university or UAS.

To pass the course, the student must pass the exam, complete all tasks given in on-line learning environment by their dead-lines and participate in on-line discussions. During the course, the students are also expected to read a novel in English (from a list of novels given during the course) and to write an essay about it in groups using on-line learning environment tools.

The course grade will consists of an exam as well as mandatory writing assignments. The students will also read a novel (from a list given) and in small groups write an essay of the novel. This will also form a part of the final grade.

The course takes place in Moodle apart from the exam, which is done on paper or online (depending on the situation). The course consists of 6 material units, mandatory writing tasks and a group work, based on a novel the students must read.

The course consists of 6 material units, mandatory writing tasks and a group work, based on a novel the students must read. There are no scheduled classes - instead the students must schedule their own study process.

Sisällön jaksotus

The course begins on the 23rd of January 2023. The course consists of 6 material units, which will open on 23.1., 6.2., 20.2. 13.3., 27.3. and 11.4. The students will receive more information by e-mail a few days before the course begins.

Students:
- are aware that there are differences in style in various writing situations
- write comprehensible texts
- use simple grammatical expressions
- use the most easily available tools, such as free on-line dictionaries
- write an essay about a given novel
- are able to work in groups
- submit all required work

Arviointikriteerit - hyvä (3-4) (Ei käytössä, kts Opintojakson Arviointikriteerit ylempänä)

Students:
- are able to use suitable styles in most writing situations
- write quite fluent and nearly grammatically correct text
- use various sources to find the suitable terms for their text
- use diverse grammatical expressions mostly flawlessly
- write a literary essay about a given novel
- are able to work in groups
- submit all required work by dead-lines
