Objectives
What is the added vale a board of directors can offer for the growth of a company?
This course familiarizes you with the principles of how board of directors works and how board can be used as a success factor for a company. The meaning of a board will be presented with case examples.
You may have (but no need to have) pre-knowledge of the board work: you may be an entrepreneur or planning to be one in the future.
After the course, student
• can describe the role of board of directors and its responsibilities
• can orientate to the future by identifying the consequences that decisions have
• understand the elements of responsible board work
• apply gained knowledge in own decision making e.g. lessons learnt
• recognize own strengths and interest if working as a board member
• know how to interview a board member of his/ her are of responsibility

Coaches are experienced specialists and board members from the Hallituspartnerit and / or Future Board.
1. Intro to the topic
2. Board's role in driving the business development
3. Board's role in building a company strategy
4. Insightful and responsible board
5. Successfull board work: diversity, interaction, decision making
6. Startup way: characteristics of growth companies
7. Team task: Company visit with an interview of a board member(s)
Assessment criteria, pass/fail
Approved when you can can demonstrate via learning diary to understand position of the board, roles and tools in leading a company. You are able to describe in concrete terms the current and future challenges. You have familiarized yourself to the course content both independently and as and active team member (including lectures, company visits and interviews).
Failed if you do not master the value-add, meaning and tools of the board work. Additionally if you have not participated actively in the course program both together with the team and independently.
