Objectives

Student
-is able to communicate in general level the factors that influence medical exposure to radiation, occupational exposure, exposure of the population and interpret radiation risks in the context of other risks in daily life
-is able to communicate the quality and quantity of radiation in daily practice and is able to interpret the risk of radiation
-understands the general principles of radiation protection and is able to apply the knowledge in daily practice
-is able to apply procedures designed to optimize the radiation dose to the staff

-Radiation protection in medical exposure
-Radiation protection for healthcare staff and population
-Principles of x-ray imaging

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass/Fail. Moodle Exam, to get grade Pass have to get 60% right answers. Failed exam can be repeated twice.

Course is intended for healthcare students and for students studying in Open University of Applied Sciences (e.g nurse, midwife, paramedic, practical nurse), especially for those, who might get exposed to ionizing radiation in their work.

According to the Decree of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health on ionizing radiation 1044/2018, the employee involved in the medical use of radiation must have the knowledge, skills and competences required in his or her duties in radiation physics, radiation biology and radiation protection.

This course fulfills the competence requirements of Annex 4 to the STM Decree on Ionizing Radiation.
