Objectives

Cross-cultural communication skills are becoming more and more important in today’s world of business and globalisation. Having knowledge of different cultures facilitates communication in multi-cultural working environments.
The purpose of this course is to equip students with intercultural business knowledge by real-case examples. The course is designed as an online course in collaboration with TAMK's strategic partners including Munich University of Applied Sciences.

The learning outcomes will include cross-cultural communication skills in various situations.

Exam schedules

There will be no exams but there will be series of assignments and a group report.

Assessment methods and criteria

Evaluation will be based on participation in the joint sessions and also contributing to the group assignments. In addition, individual assignments play a very important role in the evaluation. Participation in the forums; posting to the forums and commenting on other posts.
Three tasks, grade based on on-time submission (50 % of the total grade)
• Cultural similarities and differences (based on WEEK 1)
• Discussion results of objective points 2 and 3 (Based on WEEK 2)
• Application process, CV and cover letter (Based on WEEK 3)

Essay (50% of the total grade) GROUP TASK.
• Title: What SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) should companies take into consideration regarding global employability (the title is still a working progress and might be modified)
• Chosen the SDGs which have an impact on global employability, do research on and work with your groupmates to come to a meaningful conclusion. Submit the group essay to the designated folder.

Teaching methods

The implementation is a synchronised e-learning approach that includes independent learning of the materials provided on the course and joint lessons with other groups. There is a collaborative part of the course that involves working in a multinational group of students from Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Munich University of Applied Sciences and TAMK

Learning materials

Materials will be provided on Moodle. They include cross-cultural theories and information about 21st-century skills.

Student workload

At the heart of this course is an intercultural exchange which you’ll be conducting online in virtual team meetings with students of AUAS, MUAS and TAMK. Working in culturally mixed virtual teams, you will complete tasks collaboratively and present joint results at the end of the exchange in the form of a report, Theoretical input on cultural dimensions, business etiquette, job application processes in various countries etc. will be provided during the joint sessions.
