Osaamistavoitteet

On successful completion of this module, a student should be able to:⊛ Understand the basics theories, concepts, principles and governing equations of solid mechanics.⊛ Describe aircraft structural members, materials and manufacturing technologies.⊛ Describe the detrimental effects of corrosion, fatigue, and other failure modes on aircraft structures.⊛ Develop the fundamental skills to identify and solve typical engineering problems related to structural design, stress analysis and sizing of aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage sections and their subcomponents.⊛ Familiarize him/herself with the typical structural loads and with the function of the different structural elements found in fuselages and wings.⊛ Formulate and apply appropriate mathematical models to predict the state of stress and deformation of one, two and three-dimensional aircraft structures.⊛ Design and conduct a basic computational analysis on an aircraft structure within a peer-based design team.Measurable outcomesOnce you successfully complete this module, you will be able to:⊛ Apply energy and variational principles for the determination of deflections and internal loads in one-dimensional structural elements.⊛ Apply Ritz Method for the approximate calculation of deflections and stresses in one-dimensional structural elements.⊛ Perform analytical calculations to determine the loads on aircraft structural components.⊛ Get a hands-on experience in approximating the various structural deformations using MATLAB.⊛ Design and apply the finite element method in the stress analysis of aircraft structural components. Structural design criteria will account for stiffness, strength, toughness and useful life considerations.
