Coating Technology (5cr)

Objectives

The students know the aims of coating and the demands the coating and different printing methods place on the paper. The students know different coating processes and coating principles and how the drying of coating affects the end product. The course strengthens the students’ professional development.

Content

Coating raw materials: pigments, binders and additives and raw material handling. Making coating colour recipes, rheological characteristics of coating colour and how to affect them. Coated paper and paperboard types and the demanded characteristics from the recipes viewpoint. Different coating methods (blade coating, film coating, non-contact coating) and their utilization for different purposes. Drying strategy of coating. Manufacturing intelligent products by using coating.
